House Rises Rushing Through Business

MPs completed the committee stage of the Objectionable Publications and Indecency Legislation Bill this evening much quicker than the Government expected leaving it to scramble to deal with an unexpected debate.

Debate on the bill ended with Government amendments accepted on a voice vote and the bill was reported with amendment.

The Government then sought leave around 9.25pm for the House to rise with Whip Tim McCindoe saying the committee stages of the bills dealt with this evening had been completed earlier than expected.

However there was an objection and MPs began the third reading of the Social Security Amendment Bill (No 3).

The minister in the House Amy Adams was then forced to give a very short, off-the-cuff third reading speech before the House rose at 10pm interrupting the debate.
