Health And Safety Bill To Be Debated

by Desk Editor on Thursday, July 30, 2015 — 10:41 AM

The Government has decided to give priority to health and safety legislation in Parliament this afternoon.

After Question Time today MPs are scheduled to debate the second reading of the Health and Safety Reform Bill.

The bill was reported back last week after extended consideration in select committee with high profile debate both within National and in the wider public arena. The Committee recommended many changes and ministers have signalled there will be further amendments in the committee stage.

Labour and other parties said they no longer supported the bill due to the changes.

The bill came in the wake of the Pike River Mine Disaster.

After completion of the second reading MPs will return to the Estimates Debate with five hours and 16 minutes remaining.
