The Canterbury Earthquake Response and Recovery Bill passed it first reading vote with the unanimous support of all MPs on a voice vote.
While all speakers expressed support for the bill, a number did raise concerns about some aspects of the proposed law.
The bill passed into law just after 10pm with minor changes. The House will resume at 2pm tomorrow.
