When Parliament began Speaker Lockwood Smith said he had been officially notified that MP David Garrett was no longer a member of the ACT caucus and was now to be treated as an independent MP.
After question time MPs began the committee stage debate of the Electricity Industry Bill.
The bill replaces the Electricity Commission with the Electricity Authority, allows lines businesses back into retailing, and reshuffles some assets of the three State-owned generators (Meridian Energy Limited, Mighty River Power Limited, and Genesis Power Limited).
