Urgent Debate On Crafar Farm Decision Declined

by Desk Editor on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 — 3:06 PM

An application for an urgent debate on the High Court decision concerning the Crafar farms was declined by Speaker Lockwood Smith today.

Smith said he was not ruling the issue was unimportant but because a decision of the High Court was not an action of a minister which was a necessary test for such a debate.

The debate application followed a judge ordering Government ministers to reconsider their approval of the controversial sale of the 16 farms to a Chinese conglomerate.

The debate application followed Question Time and the tabling of the Maori Language Commission’s annual report.

This afternoon MPs have returned to the interrupted debate in reply to the Speech from the Throne.
