Parliament will sit extended hours this week as the Government tries to deal with business by the end of the month.

Shortly before the dinner break, Leader of the House Gerry Brownlee said the Government wanted to pass the Appropriation (2011/12 Supplementary Estimates) Bill and an Imprest Supply Bill. It also wanted to complete the three hour debate on the performance and current operations of Crown entities, public organisations and State enterprises.

The motion passed on a voice vote.

Also this afternoon the committee stage of the Prisoners’ and Victims’ Claims (2012 Expiry and Application Dates) Amendment Bill was completed and it was reported without amendment.

The Dairy Industry Restructuring Amendment Bill completed its second reading by 64 to 57 with National, Maori Party, ACT and United Future supporting.

The Government is hoping to pass both those bills this week.

MPS began the three hour debate on the performance and current operations of Crown entities, public organisations and State enterprises.
