MOM And Prisoners’ Compensation

by Desk Editor on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 — 1:22 PM

It is expected that the committee stage of the Mixed Ownership Model Bill will be completed when Parliament sits today.

The bill setting up the partial sale of shares in energy state owned enterprises will be debated following Question Time and the General Debate.

Next on the Order Paper is the second reading of a bill which would extend a ban on prisoners getting monetary compensation for breaches of their rights.

The Prisoners’ and Victims’ Claims (2012 Expiry and Application Dates) Amendment Bill is another piece of temporary legislation on the issue and seeks to ensure that any compensation paid to prisoners is redirected to victims or services to victims.

The current ban is due to expire at the end of this month and this bill will extend that for another year. A permanent legislative solution is yet to be debated by MPs.
