Watchdog Barks At Corrections Bill

This week, the Law & Order Committee heard submissions on the Corrections Amendment Bill.

Ombudsman Beverley Wakem opposed the Bill’s extension of mandatory strip searches for at risk prisoners.

Also, a joint submission was made by Vodafone, Telecom & 2 Degrees, who saw problems arising from a requirement on their companies to provide the Corrections Department with data from cell phones seized in prisons.
