Grinding Through Committee Stages

MPs spent Tuesday evening grinding their way through the committee stage of taxation legislation.

The House rose at 10pm debating Part Five of the Taxation (Annual Rates, Returns Filing, and Remedial Matters) Bill.

The bill sets the annual income tax rates for the 2012/13 year, introduces amendments to the requirements for filing and storing of tax returns and amends other acts and regulations such as the KiwiSaver Act 2006.

The majority of the debate focussed on Labour MPs trying to link the legislation to ACT MP John Banks and his memory of campaign donations.
