Acting Leader of the House Chris Finlayson said when Parliament next sat on September 18, the Government would seek to make progress on the committee stages and firsts readings of a number of bills.

These would include the Environment Canterbury (Temporary Commissioners and Improved Water Management) Amendment Bill, Taxation (Annual Rates, Returns Filing, and Remedial Matters) Bill, Airports (Cost Recovery for Processing of International Travellers) Bill and the Legislation Bill

Wednesday would be a members’ day and on Thursday the House would sit in the morning under extended hours provisions to progress a number of treaty settlement bills including the Waitaha Claims Settlement Bill.

The petition of Gayleen Mackereth on behalf of the Howick Ratepayers and Residents Association was presented asking that the House note that 244 people have signed a petition calling for legislation to limit local government spending to core projects and to introduce an alternative system of local funding.
