Rapid Progress As National Shortens Calls

by Desk Editor on Tuesday, September 25, 2012 — 10:01 PM

MPs made rapid progress on bills on Tuesday evening as National MPs took shortened calls to almost halve the time usually taken on debates.

The Juries (Jury Service and Protection of Particulars of Jury List Information) Amendment Bill was passed into law on a voice vote.

Amongst other things the bill gives better protection to the identity of jurors and allows those over 65 opt out of jury service.

After earlier completing the second readings of the Lawyers and Conveyancers Amendment Bill and the International Finance Agreements Amendment Bill, the House rose at 10pm interrupting the first reading debate of the Crown Minerals (Permitting and Crown Land) Bill.
