Mining Law Changes Reach Committee Stage

by Desk Editor on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 — 10:57 AM

Changes to laws covering mining on Crown owned land will be debated in Parliament today.

After Question Time and the General Debate, the first item on the Order Paper is the committee stage of the Crown Minerals (Permitting and Crown Land) Bill. Labour indicated they would no longer support the bill at the second reading and the Greens have opposed the bill from the beginning.

The Government has indicated it will introduce changes to the bill at the committee stage creating new criminal charges and penalties for protesting near deep water oil rigs.

Following this MPs will return to the committee stage of the Local Electoral Amendment Bill (No 2).
