Education legislation introducing charter or partnership schools will be debated in Parliament today, though most attention will likely be on the parting shots of a maverick MP.

When Parliament resumes at 2pm, after Question Time MPs are scheduled to debate a Government notice of motion confirming the budgets for the Officers of Parliament.

It is widely expected that National MP Aaron Gilmore will be granted leave to give a valedictory speech as he prepares to leave Parliament under a cloud.

The first bill due for debate is the second reading of the Education Amendment Bill which has created controversy over its proposal to set up alternative school models.

The Government is also seeking to hold the three hour set piece debate on the performance and current operations of Crown entities, public organisations and State Enterprises.
