Morning Session Completes Business

MPs completed the extended hours session of Parliament this morning and the House will resume at 2pm for Question Time.

MPs agreed on two Government motions on a voice vote. One to reappoint Sir John Hugh Williams as the Chair of the Electoral Commission and another regarding the rules around MPs attendance of Parliament.

The Royal Succession Bill completed its second reading by 104 with 16 abstentions with the Greens, Mana and Brendan Horan abstaining.

The committee stage and the third reading of the bill were also completed by a similar margin.

The committee stage and third reading of the Mokomoko (Restoration of Character, Mana, and Reputation) Bill were completed on a voice vote.

The House rose for lunch after debating the Health Committee’s inquiry into improving child health outcomes and preventing child abuse.
