Parliament has wrapped up for the week passing into law new measures to crack down on student loan defaulters including giving police powers to arrest them at the border.
Following Question Time there was a one hour debate on the motion – “That Meridian Energy Limited be a public organisation for the purposes of the Standing Orders”.
The procedural motion was passed by 112 to 7 with NZ First opposed.
The third reading of the Student Loan Scheme Amendment Bill (No 3) was completed by 61 to 59 with National, ACT and United Future in favour, while the second reading of the Victims of Crime Reform Bill was completed on a voice vote.
The House rose at 6pm interrupting the second reading debate on the Victims’ Orders Against Violent Offenders Bill.
