The House rose just before 10pm interrupting debate on parental leave legislation.

National MPs continued to put the brakes on the committee stage of the Parental Leave and Employment Protection (Six Months’ Paid Leave) Amendment Bill with debate ending for the evening on clause four.

The Bill in the name of Labour’s Sue Moroney had the numbers to progress as only National opposed, but has now run out of time in this Parliament ahead of it rising next week ahead of the election.

Earlier the third reading of the Summary Offences (Possession of Hand-held Lasers) Amendment Bill was completed on a voice vote.
