The second reading of the Objectionable Publications and Indecency Legislation Bill was completed this evening.

Amongst other things the bill increases punishments for possessing objectionable material and in particular pictures of child abuse.

The bill completed its second reading on a voice vote though NZ First spoke against the bill during debate saying it did not go far enough.

Debate began on the second reading of the Statutes Amendment Bill (No 4)..

The Associate Justice Minister Simon Bridges said the bill making technical non-controversial amendments to 34 Acts and while it would not excite many, it was dull and worthy.

Labour’s David Parker said the bill amended 33 Acts and the difference between 33 and 34 made a lot more difference on his side of the House than the Governmentt. A reference to the 32 MPs Labour currently has.

Debate was interrupted when the House rose at 10pm.
