First Sitting Day of 2015 Ends

This evening the second reading of the Immigration Amendment Bill (No 2) was completed by 61 to 59 with National, ACT and United Future in favour, though the Maori Party voted in favour of the select committee report being accepted.

Labour and the Greens indicated they were withdrawing their support from the bill as it would not adequately deal with the problems around vulnerable immigrant workers.

The House rose at 10pm interrupting the second reading of the Social Security Amendment Bill (No 3). Amongst other things it prevents students applying for the accommodation supplement instead of the student allowance.
