Arts, Culture and Heritage Minister Maggie Barry said the Waitangi National Trust Board Amendment Bill would reform the governance of the Trust. The bill also seeks to address a potential conflict between the constitutional and trusteeship roles of the Governor-General and Ministers as ex officio members of the Waitangi National Trust Board. The bill also provides for the Trust Deed and the Waitangi National Trust Board Act 1932 to provide fixed terms of appointment for Board members

Nanaia Mahuta said Labour would support the bill, but there were still discussions to be held over the composition of representatives on the Board and other issues in a wider review.

The bill completed its second reading on a voice vote.

MPs began the second reading of the Organised Crime and Anti-corruption Legislation Bill.
