Asian Investment Bank Debate

by Desk Editor on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 — 10:42 AM

MPs will debate New Zealand’s membership of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank when Parliament sits today.

Following Question Time the first reading of the International Finance Agreements Amendment Bill is scheduled to be held. The bill enables New Zealand to become a member of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank and implements New Zealand’s obligations under the Articles of Agreement of the Infrastructure Bank.

This will be followed by the first readings of the Māori Purposes Bill and the Child Protection (Child Sex Offender Register) Bill. The former bill is to improve the governance arrangements of the Wi Pere Trust and the Maori Trust Boards. The latter bill sets up a sex offenders’ register for government agencies. It is intended to give agencies the information needed to monitor child sex offenders in the community.
