Mr McGee was Clerk of the House of Representatives from 1985 to 2007 and recently gifted copyright of the book to Parliament.

In publishing the work to the website his successor, Mary Harris, Clerk of the House, said she would like to recognise Mr McGee’s expertise and the meticulous effort that the work represents, and thanked him for his willingness to make the book more accessible.

The third edition of Parliamentary Practice in New Zealand is made available on the Parliament website in the form in which it was published in 2005.

Some procedures and practices have changed since that time. The Office of the Clerk is in the process of establishing a structure for bringing and keeping the work up to date.
