Following Question Time and the General Debate, MPs will return to the interrupted committee stage debate of the Rugby World Cup 2011 (Empowering) Bill. Following Question Time and the General Debate, MPs will return to the interrupted committee stage debate of the Rugby World Cup 2011 (Empowering) Bill.

The bill is to allow consent and regulatory approvals for temporary activities related to the Rugby World Cup 2011 to be considered expediently to align with the tournament schedule.

Labour and the Greens oppose the bill arguing the powers given to ministers are too powerful. The Government says it is necessary to ensure the smooth running of the tournament.

There are five parts and preliminary clauses still to be considered and if that is completed tonight the House will turn to the third reading of the Governor-General Bill.
