It is expected that the third reading debate on the Ngati Tuwharetoa Raukawa and Te Arawa River Iwi Bill will be completed.

The bill gives effect to deeds entered into between the Crown and Ngāti Tūwharetoa, Raukawa, and Te Arawa River Iwi setting up a co-governance framework for the Waikato River and its catchment.

The legislation sits alongside a similar agreement between the Crown and Waikato-Tainui for co-management and related arrangements to restore and protect the health and wellbeing of the Waikato River.
