The Rugby World Cup 2011 (Empowering) Bill passed its third reading by 69 votes to 51 with Labour and the Green Party opposing
The Leader of the House Gerry Brownlee put forward an Urgency Motion covering the following bills:
*Courts and Criminal Matters Bill – Second reading;
*Māori Purposes Bill – First reading;
*Employment Relations Amendment Bill (No 2) – Interrupted debate on second reading and committee stage;
*Holidays Amendment Bill – Second reading and committee stage;
*Local Government Act 2002 Amendment Bill – Second reading and all remaining stages;
*Education Amendment Bill – Second reading and all remaining stages;
*Child and Family Protection Bill -Committee stage and all remaining stages;
*Ngāti Apa (North Island) Claims Settlement Bill – Committee stage;
*Whanganui Iwi (Whanganui (Kaitoke) Prison and Northern Part of Whanganui Forest) On-account Settlement Bill – Committee stage; and
*Television New Zealand Amendment Bill – Second reading.
The motion passed by 69 to 51 with Labour and the Greens opposing.
Mr Brownlee said the Government wished to use Urgency as there were only 11 sitting days scheduled until the end of they year and it wished to make progress on its legislative programme.
He said it was “an ambitious’’ schedule of bills, but said the House would rise on Thursday at 6pm and Question Time would be held on Wednesday and Thursday.
