When Parliament resumed at 2pm Speaker Lockwood Smith told MPs he had been officially advised of Labour list MP Darren Hughes resignation.

Justice Minister Simon Power on behalf of Civil Defence Minister John Carter advised Parliament that the Government was extending the national state of emergency following the earthquake in Christchurch.

The report of the Auditor-General on the 2009/2010 audits was presented as was the Maori Affairs committee report on the petition of John Boscawen.

The Education Amendment (no 4) Bill and Local Government (Borrowing) Bill were introduced.
