When Parliament resumed at 2pm, the Acting Leader of the House Simon Power said when Parliament resumed after next week’s recess it was the Government’s intention to progress the Taxation (Annual Rates, Returns Filing, and Remedial Matters) Bill, the Subordinate Legislation (Confirmation and Validation) Bill (No 3) and other Government legislation.

There would also be valedictory statements from seven departing members in this Parliament’s penultimate sitting week

Mr Power said September 28 was “scheduled’’ to be a members day and in answer to questions said the Government intended tabling legislation addressing the “sleepover’’ wages case as soon as possible and discussions about progressing this would follow.

Select committee reports were presented on the:

Petition 2008/131 of Kathryn Frances Boswell by the Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade Committee; and
Petition 2008/127 of Janice Tofia by the Education and Science Committee

MPs began Question Time.
