Ending The Estimates Debate

by Desk Editor on Thursday, August 16, 2012 — 10:45 AM

The Government intends to complete the committee stage of the Appropriation (2012/13 Estimates) Bill with 25 minutes remaining in the set piece debate to take place after Question Time.

MPs will then begin the committee stage of the Exclusive Economic Zone and Continental Shelf (Environmental Effects) Bill.

Last week Environment Minister Amy Adams said the Government would bring in an SOP which, amongst other things, would introduce the concept of sustainable development into the purpose of the bill and higher fines for breaches of the law.

Both Labour and the Greens opposed the bill at its second reading, they have indicated they believe the changes are an improvement, but it is not clear yet whether the changes to the bill will be enough to gain their support.
