Parliament would adjourn next week due to many MPs involvement in Waitangi Day events, Leader of the House Gerry Brownlee said today.

Brownlee said in the Business Statement when Parliament resumed the Government would seek to complete the debate on the Prime Minister’s statement. It also wanted to pass the Subantarctic Islands Marine Reserves Bill and have a first reading on the Smoke-free Environments (Tobacco Plain Packaging) Amendment Bill.

Green MP Jan Logie then moved a motion wishing NZ athletes the best at the coming Winter Olympics and asking the Russian Govt to treat all people equally regardless of sexuality, it was passed on a voice vote.

Select committee reports were presented on the:

2012/13 financial review of the Department of Corrections by the Law and Order Committee

2012/13 financial review of the New Zealand Police by the Law and Order Committee

2012/13 financial review of the Serious Fraud Office by the Law and Order Committee

Interim report on the Accounting Infrastructure Reform Bill by the Commerce Committee.
MPs then began Question Time.
