Urgent Debate and Urgency

by Desk Editor on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 — 3:12 PM

An urgent debate on the activities of prisoners in a privately run prison has been granted by Speaker David Carter

After Question Time, Mr Carter said the request followed reports of prisoners videoing each other fighting and taking drugs in the Serco run prison. Mr Carter said a debate was justified because the public needed to have confidence in how prisons were run.

Transport Minister Simon Bridges has indicated to the media he intends introducing and passing a bill through all stages under Urgency to ammend transport law from 2004. More specific information was not provided.

Legislation passed that year included the Land Transport (Road User) Rule 2004.
